The new Gmail tabbed browsing system split users in those who like it, and those who wants back the common Inbox. Gmail tabs organizes automatically new messages in up to 5 different tabs:
- Primary: Just for general emails that doesn’t fit the tabs listed below.
- Social: For emails regarding news from social networks, like Facebook notifications, Twitter mentions, YouTube digests.
- Promotions: The other part of spam, this tab groups newsletters that you’re subscribed at, mainly commercial websites.
- Updates: An example here can be Google Alert, or any other sort of updates like weekly emails from information websites or whatever you feel like going here.
- Forum: Forum communities emails that you’re registered at go here.
Even if they are fixed, means that you can’t add, delete or edit them, Tabs learn as the time goes how to filter the inbox, by moving wrong messages to another tab and say it “yes, remember that emails from this address goes here”.

As we said at the beginning, users are not so much happy. First of all because Inbox is not as clean as before and can create confusion when finding yourself dealing with a lot of messages daily. However, if it can be activated, you can switch back to the old but gold layout; here’s how to do it.

Click on the Gear button at top right of the screen. From the drop down menu, click “Configure Inbox” and unselect all the four options regarding the additional tabs (Social, Promotions, Updates, Forum). Save and see how they disappear from Gmail website!

Il nuovo sistema di raggruppamento delle email a pannelli di ha diviso gli utenti in due parti: quelli a cui piace, e coloro che vogliono tornare indietro.
Le Tab di Gmail organizzano la posta in arrivo in 5 diversi pannelli;
- Principale: Qui è dove vanno le email che non si adattano a una delle tab sotto elencate.
- Social: Per email riguardanti novità dai social network, come le notifiche di Facebook, Menzioni di Twitter, Digest di YouTube.
- Promozioni: La controparte dello spai, questa tab raccoglie le newsletter a cui siete iscritti, principalmente di siti a scopo commerciale, sconti e così via.
- Aggiornamenti: Un esempio può essere Google Alert, email provenienti da siti di informazione come i blog o qualunque cosa che non si adatti alle Promozioni.
- Forum: Messaggi da Forum community alle quali siete registrati finiscono qui.
Le Tab di Gmail sono fisse, cioè impossibili da modificare, aggiungere e eliminare. Tuttavia, imparano con il passare del tempo spostando manualmente le email finite dove non dovrebbero confermando di “Eseguire in futuro la stessa operazione per i messaggi di …?”
Come abbiamo detto in precedenza, non tutti gli utenti ne sono entusiasti. Prima di tutto, l’Inbox non è pulita come prima e crea confusione quando ci si trova a gestire un gran numero di messaggi. Le Tab di Gmail però possono essere disattivate, tornando indietro al vecchio layout; ecco come fare.
Tornare alla Inbox classica
Cliccate sull’icona a forma di ingranaggio in alto a destra sopra i messaggi. Dal menu a tendina, selezionate “Configura Posta in Arrivo” e togliete la spunta a tutte le 4 Tab aggiuntive (cioè Social, Promozioni, Aggiornamenti, Forum). Salvate ed eccole scomparse!
